To check if your rails are sharp enough, scratch your fingernail across the edge - if some scrapes off, its all good. If not, give it a sharpen.
Dry your edges after use, especially if you wont be using the board for a while - this will prevent them rusting.
If you won't be riding for a while, wax but dont scrape. This keeps the base from drying out.
Store in a dry, safe place when not in use.
Consider buying a lock; it may deter any mountain pikeys from taking your precious.
